Black Tie Dress Code Tips For Men
Gentlemen, if your company is throwing an event and the invitation says black tie it is not an indication that you can wear a pair of black skinny jeans, a white shirt and a skinny black tie. A black tie event is exceedingly formal and it is important that you dress the part. If you are a little lost for inspiration, think James Bond.
This video gives a few simple tips for dressing for a black tie event. The most important part of picking your outfit is ensuring that you feel comfortable, you can do this by wearing breathable fabrics and also by still staying true your own individual style. You don’t need to go as far as having a ruffled shirt but as it is a formal event a black or midnight blue suit is the standard.
A single breasted jacket is the best choice for a black tie event. To jazz your suit up experiment with a bowtie, or coloured shirt, and as a great finishing touch you can even add a flower as a boutonnière in your lapel. Your trousers should be the same material and colour as your jacket. As a rule some believe that trousers should also have a waist covering which can be a waistcoat or cummerbund which looks a bit like a very wide belt. When picking shoes be sure to pick a pair that is black, comfortable and elegant.
