How to Plan an Eco-Friendly Wedding

    Last updated 5 months ago

Trying to be environmentally savvy on a day dedicated to love and indulgence can be a hard act to pull off. For many couples, placing the environment ahead of them is a priority on their big day, so if you are planning an eco-friendly wedding, why not consider the following tips.

    The Invites

While e-invites are becoming increasingly popular, online invitations can exclude those guests that are not computer savvy. So, why not use recycled paper instead? There are even some fabulous paper products that are plantable - a great way to be environmentally chic and create an everlasting memory of your wedding for your guests.

    The Flowers

Rule number one with flowers is to make sure the blooms you have your heart set on are in season. Trying to import exotic flowers from across the world because they are not in full bloom here simply contributes to our fossil fuel usage and pollution. An even better idea is to use ‘potted colour’ for your table centrepieces. This way, guests can take a gift from the wedding home, and replant it as another way of creating a lasting impression of your wedding day.

    The Food

Perhaps the best way to provide ‘green’ food on your wedding day is to source a caterer who uses locally grown produce. Food with less fuel miles will be picked fresh and will not need long periods of storage, requiring less electricity and ultimately a fresh food experience for your guests.

    The Dress

French lace, Swarovski crystals and Japanese silk aren’t exactly eco-friendly. Man-made materials such as these often require tons of electricity to be created. The obvious step to take here is to buy a second hand gown, or use a family heirloom and re-tailor it according to your tastes.

Five Tips To Reduce Pre-Wedding Stress

    Last updated 5 months ago

Organising a wedding can be one of the most stressful (yet rewarding) moments in your life. Needless to say, it is little wonder the term ‘bridezilla’ has been coined. Between organising the perfect dress, the perfect wedding venue, and the nicest flowers, trying to look like the calm, radiant bride that you deserve to be on your wedding day can be nearly impossible.

    1. Don’t Forget About Your Fiancé

With the added stress of the pending deadline, often couples can lose touch of the person they most love – their fiancé. Don’t neglect your regular date nights or at least try to fit some quality ‘us’ time in before the wedding to reduce stress levels.

    2.  Indulge Yourself

Schedule a massage, facial or even a restorative walk with girlfriends a few days before the wedding to assist in alleviating anxiety and to release some feel good endorphins.

    3. You Can’t Do Everything!

So don’t even try! As much as you have organised the vast majority of the day’s festivities, it is now time to acknowledge the help that is around you. Enlist friends to pick up the flowers, finish off place cards or tie the final bows on your bomboniere.  It is sometimes these last minute small jobs that can really tip you over the edge, so know when to let go and delegate.

    4. Just One Day….

Remember today is but one day of your amazing married life. Yes your wedding day is very important, but your future happiness does not stem from it, so keep a healthy outlook on the day and know that a radiant bride is one that is happy and carefree.

    5. Prepare a few words

Even though brides don’t usually give a speech, make sure you have a few acknowledgements up your sleeve, as more often than not you will be required to at least thank your wonderful guests.

    Creative Hen's Night Party Ideas

    Last updated 5 months ago

Planning the ultimate hen’s extravaganza really comes down to knowing the bride and her preferences.

    The Luxurious Hen

The most common practice for the indulgent hen involves a day of pampering. Pamper packages can be tailored according to your hens taste, but be sure to pick the most luxurious for your group, including aromatherapy, massages, facials and complimentary champagne of course!

    The Spiritual Hen

If your bride-to-be is looking to intoxicate her soul and not her senses then why not employ a physic to come to your house to perform readings? There are many excellent psychic party hosts who specialise in the art of palm and jewellery reading to ensure no card is left unturned on your hen’s nights.

    The Arty Hen

Does your hen fancy herself as the next Monet? Perhaps you should book her in for an art class with a difference. If she thinks she has everything in the art department covered, just wait to you see what she has to draw! Live nude art classes are the perfect surprise for your party, particularly when the subject of your painting isn’t what your bride had in mind.

    The Foodie Hen

If your girlfriend has an addiction to Master Chef why not enrol your party into a cooking class? Companies such as Urban Graze, specialize in three-hour group cooking classes with care taken to teach even the most amateur of domestic goddesses.

How to Engage An Audience During a Corporate Seminar

    Last updated 5 months ago

The art of engaging and inspiring an audience while also imparting all the necessary information is hard but not impossible. In order to get the best results from your corporate seminar, you need to grab the audience’s attention from the get go. From our experience, here are six ways to engage your audience at your next corporate seminar.

    1. Get People Up From the Audience

Getting audience members to physically interact with you engages your listeners altogether. People are always curious to see their peers perform, and watching other colleagues illustrate a point helps to break the tension in your own speech.

    2. Ask Questions

Questions are a great way of creating camaraderie amongst your audience. Getting your listeners to raise their hand unanimously or shout ‘yes’ or ‘no’ ensures that everyone is on the same page and everyone is ‘playing the game’.

    3. Get Your Audience To Pair Off

This will encourage your audience to start communicating ideas in their own way, reinforce vital parts of your speech, and give you a small break to mentally prepare for the next component of the seminar.

    4. Challenge Your Audience

Purposely leave certain areas blank on your slides such as data or words in order to empower them to come up with the right answer.

    5.  Give Hand Outs And Added Bonuses

Hardcopies give credence to your work so make sure you come armed with necessary quizzes or dot point summaries to empower your audience above and beyond the board room.

    6. Tell Personal Stories That Are Relevant

Anecdotal information that reinforces your own ideas is a great way of building personal rapport with your audience and assists in conveying your ideas on a human level.

If you are looking to host your next corporate seminar at a waterfront Sydney venue, contact The Waterfront Function Centre on (02) 9529 7276 and let us help you create the right message for your audience.
